Political radicalisation is turning me into a centrist

Growing up, I was a communist (close to being a tankie) in the 2010s- the time when the internet was ridiculing LBGTQ+ and "keyboard warriors". Fascinated by communism and a passionate distain for capitalism, I was more or less aligned with leftist and socialist politics. Now, in 2026, I am left confused by the radical political discourses and I can no longer say I am a socialist or leftie.

I strongly believe political brainrot or radicalisation is polluting any progress and further alienate people into echo chambers. There is nuisances to politics. People are complex, our culture, language, family and religion can play a big part into our belief system. Of course I support the liberation of nations, such as Palestine, from colonisation and invasion. At the same time, I condemn slavery of Yazidi people 1, religious discrimination and harm of innocent civilians. Two things can be true at once. My priority is nations right to be independent and safe from exploitation. I have always been pro-Indigenous, anti-colonisation and anti-war, but I will admit that this is a naive view of the world. We can not expect invaders to break down the door and just let them take over. At the same time, it would be morally wrong to torture them or take revenge on their families.

The champagne socialist Hasan Piker or 'HasanAbi' on Twitch have been gaining mainstream popularity "America deserve 9/11". While preaching about class inequalities, he wears designer clothes and stayed in a luxury 5 star hotel in Cuba 2. At 18 years old, I was quickly disillusioned with communism when I realised communism can not coexist with the ultra-rich clinging to wealth and power. In my opinion, the root of the problem is not politics but economics. Yet, both political parties, especially radicalised groups, are more than ready to cause terror for political causes. Hurting innocent people will not make a change. Murderers can now act as heroes for a political cause.

I am in limbo, I no longer align myself as a leftist. Radicalisation is pushing me closer to centrism.
